Nikolay Myaskovsky - the official site

This handsome, well laid-out site is packed with information on Prokofiev's best friend. Its 'home' is in Russia so naturally the site has a Russian bias in such sections as 'Events' and in the number of Russian-language articles. However it is well worth a visit or two by English readers, since it contains plenty of English-language material including a detailed biography.
There are also several photos, many of them rare, of Myaskovsky, his family and friends taken from throughout his life. Also, a useful list of Miaskovsky's compositions, including a comprehensive discography for each work; a separate recordings list; and several articles, two of them in English of which the most interesting is Eric Schissel's which goes into some detail about Myaskovsky's music, its influences and the character of his different periods.
There are sections, too, devoted to Myaskovsky's teachers, friends and pupils, each of whom gets a dedicated biography and at least a picture. At the time of reviewing, there were some inaccuracies in the Prokofiev biography - we have detailed these to the webmaster, so possibly they will be fixed soon. That aside, the site is warmly recommend to all who want to learn more about this still grievously underestimated composer.
