Sergei Alexeevich Prokofiev. 1877.
Mariia Grigorievna Prokofiev. 1876.
I was born in 1891. Borodin had died four years earlier, Liszt five, Wagner eight and Musorgsky ten. Tchaikovsky had two and a half years of life remaining; he had completed the Fifth Symphony but not yet begun his Sixth. Rimsky-Korsakov had recently completed his Scheherezade and was about to revise Boris Godunov. Debussy was twenty-nine, Glazunov twenty-six, Scriabin nineteen, Rakhmaninov eighteen, Ravel sixteen, Miaskovsky ten, Stravinsky nine and Hindemith hadn't yet been born. Alexander III ruled in Russia, Lenin was twenty-one and Stalin eleven.
I was born on Wednesday 11 April (Old Style), at five o'clock in the afternoon. This was on the hundredth day of the year. 11 April corresponds to 23 April (New Style), not 24, as some have mistakenly calculated. (Autobiography)
